The farmer and the snake fable

Once upon a time, a kind and modest farmer lived in a village. He had a small field just outside his village where he grew crops. He was a helpful person who always reached out to assist others. One day, he was preparing to work in his field. One day, on a cold morning, he was going to his fields. As he was about to reach his field, he saw a snake lying on the ground near a bush. The snake was taking its last breaths, badly affected by the cold.

The Farmer’s Compassionate Act

The freezing temperature stopped it from moving. The farmer felt sorry for it and decided to save its life. He placed the snake against his chest to warm it up. The snake felt the warmth and began to revive with new life. After a while, the snake regained its strength and was ready to move again. It suddenly realized that a man was holding it close to his body.

Betrayal by the Snake

But instead of showing gratitude to him, the snake suddenly bit him with its venomous bite. In intense pain, the farmer shouted, “Ouch!” He was surprised by the snake’s action. He stared at the snake and questioned, “Why did you bite me? I was trying to help you!”

The snake, showing no remorse, replied, “You knew I was a snake when you picked me up.” As the farmer lay dying, he murmured, “I have only myself to blame. What folly led me to pick up a venomous creature and show compassion?” Then he passed away.
